About us

Daniel Jones grew up in an old Victorian in Eureka. His dad ran a home cabinet shop and was always fixing up the house and teaching Daniel carpentry along the way. After graduating from Eureka High, Daniel moved to the Bay Area and worked in an entirely different sector of construction, building new tract homes and townhouses. After the recession of 2008, he returned north and earned a degree in Industrial Technology from Humboldt State while also working for his uncle at CJ's Sash and Door in Fieldbrook. There he learned the fine trade of designing and building custom windows and doors. The experience solidified Daniel's passion for architectural millwork and historic preservation.

Shawnee Alexandri hails from the East Coast, where he first learned to fix up old buildings for community use.  When he moved to Humboldt County in 1996, he fell in love with the majesty of the redwoods and developed a passion for working with recycled old growth redwood and repurposing it as a distinguishing part of his work. In 2001, Shawnee began working with architect and builder Jim Groeling and Associates, along with Dick Lehey, where he developed a strong foundation in construction with a special interest in Craftsmen style building and woodworking. He later joined forces with Northern Building Company, taking on ambitious renovations like the Greyhound Hotel in Eureka. In 2017, he got his General Contractor's license and formed Alexandri Construction with a talented team of carpenters, many of which he continues to work with today. Shawnee has largely built his reputation working on custom homes and commercial building projects, as well as helping to preserve the integrity of Victorians, Craftsmens and older buildings throughout Humboldt County.

In 2020, Daniel Jones and Shawnee Alexandri combined their skills, passions and resources to develop a new full service Custom Door & Window branch of the business. Shortly after, in 2023, they purchased Mad River Woodworks from owner Tim Thornton who was preparing to retire after many years in the industry. Shawnee and Daniel recognized the importance of preserving the legacy and trade of Victorian millworks. Their commitment to upholding the legacy of Victorian woodworking is matched only by their willingness to explore new avenues in architectural millwork. With a deep respect for the past and an eye toward the future, Mad River Woodworks crafts pieces that not only embellish spaces but also tell a story of time-honored artistry and innovation.

Finally all under one roof, Mad River Woodworks & Construction offers a vast array of custom windows, doors, millwork and general construction services.
